Let's set the record straight once and for all. Tom Brady is the legitimate GOAT. No questions asked. The man is an actual legend. No one was willing to accept that he was the GOAT, but it seems that now that Brady has left the Patriots and that he is playing for the Buccaneers, people have hopped on the train. All I have to say is that once people leave Boston sports, the whole country seems to suddenly rally around them. I find this only slightly ironic because we make them into what they are and raise them from nothing into absolute giants. But we can't focus on all the giants and legends, so we will focus just on one. Tom Brady is the GOAT, no argument. He just is.
Brady began as an underdog and has risen to the very top of the top. In 2000, Brady was the 199th draft pick in the 6th round by the New England Patriots. Brady made his first start in 2001, in the 3rd of the season after Drew Bledsoe got injured during the second game of the season. Brady has been in the spotlight since he made his debut as the starting quarterback in 2001. The numbers are so impressive. Brady has spent 20 years, so far, in the NFL. Brady has played in 301 games and has 12 games with 400 or more passing yards, the second-most in the NFL.
While the numbers are part of the reason why he is the GOAT. Another equally important part, if not more important part, is the character of a person. And the character of Tom Brady is one of a GOAT. For years, he sacrificed his paycheck in order for the Patriots to be able to acquire other players and to build a really solid team. Tom Brady could have been the highest-paid quarterback if he hadn't made this sacrifice. And yes, before anyone gets mad, I understand that Brady is unbelievably wealthy, but regardless of how much people have made, most athletes want to go to the place where they can get the most money. So, while this sacrifice might not have cost him as big as it could have, it was still a sacrifice that he willingly made, showing his true character. The character of a GOAT.
Watching Tom Brady get traded to the Buccaneers certainly broke my heart. I always thought that he would be with the Patriots for his entire career, but sadly that is not the case. But I do love that he went to the Buccaneers and won the Super Bowl last year, illustrating that he really truly is the GOAT. The team doesn't matter. The coaching doesn't matter. He really is just an unbelievable player. There will always be haters, but when you change locations, environments, and teams it is significantly harder for people to doubt your abilities.
